Humpback Whales

Humpback Whale Watching Tours & Trips; Turks & Caicos Islands

Whale Migration to Turks and Caicos

The annual migration of the North Atlantic Humpback Whale begins in the Fall. The rich fishing grounds of the far North prepare the large mammals for the long trek to the southern Bahamian Banks including the Turks and Caicos, Mouchoir and Silver Banks. The latter of these are located just north of the Dominican Republic. Their annual path is nearly identical, these ancient mariners have a navigation system that we do not understand, but must respect.

The whales arrive in Turks and Caicos waters with the New Year when most are near the end of their journey. We can provide whale-watching tours at Big Blue and we do pride ourselves on exploring each whale encounter to its fullest potential with patience and etiquette being our prime objectives.

Whale Watching

Guests most likely to encounter whales will be SCUBA divers and snorkelers whose excursions venture beyond the protection of the barrier reef although our eco-tourism adventurers to Middle Caicos should keep an eye out between Mudjin Harbor and Conch Bar where the deeper water runs very close to the island.
